Samuels Public Library to Expand ‘Library of Things’ Collection With Dominion Energy Grant
October 7th, 2026
Samuels Public Library is excited to announce it has been awarded a $2,000 grant from the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation to support and expand its “Library of Things” collection.
The grant funding will allow the library to acquire a variety of new non-traditional items for community members to check out. Beyond books and media, the Library of Things will offer patrons access to tools, equipment, and specialty items that facilitate hands-on learning, home projects, and new hobbies. The grant will support the official launch of the Library of Things, building on the program’s soft launch featuring paranormal ghost hunting kits and oversized games like corn hole boards, giant checkers, and more.
“We are deeply grateful for the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation for their generous support. The grant will help us expand our Library of Things collection, a project we have been working on for several months,” said Erin Rooney, Samuels Library Director. “It will allow us to address community needs by growing a collection that promotes sharing, accessibility, and learning.”
The new items purchased through this grant will be processed and integrated into the collection in the coming months, featuring distinct tags recognizing Dominion Energy’s contribution to the initiative. “We are working on polls to put out to the community that will help us gauge what items community members would like to see in the Library of Things collection. Feedback from the polls will determine what items we should prioritize purchasing first,” said Kaitlyn Leckliter, Adult Reference Manager.
