Art Workshop: Alcohol Ink Stain

An Appalachian Odyssey: My 30 Years on the Appalachian Trail

Author Jeffrey Ryan will share his Appalachian Trail adventures spanning half a lifetime. Ryan has hiked over 8,000 miles on America's trails.

In 1985, he started "inadvertently" hiking the Appalachian Trail with a friend, an adventure that ended up spanning over 2,100 miles and nearly three decades. His two books, An Appalachian Odyssey: My 30 Years on the Appalachian Trail and Blazing Ahead will be available for purchase. Register for this event online.

Tom's film, The Other Side of Eden, explores the 1932 lynching of a black man in Fauquier County, based on the recently published book The Last Lynching in Virginia by Jim Hall. Join Front Royal artist, Michael Whited, in a class for budding young artists ages 9 to 18. Young artists will complete one work of art in each 1 1/2-hour session. The class emphasizes using basic shapes in drawings and painting, shading and shadowing techniques, and combining elements into a cohesive composition.
