book club in a bag

It's never been so easy to start your own book club. Just grab a handy Book Club in a Bag kit from the library!

1. Check out a kit at the library.
2. Hand out books to your book club. (With 10 copies included, there’s no more hunting for books!)
3. At your regular meeting, just add good food and good friends. Use the provided questions to start the conversation.
4. Collect the books and return the kit to the library.
5. Repeat!

more information

A Book Club in a Bag includes 10 copies of a single book, along with a sheet of suggested questions for discussion. Each kit checks out for a period of 8 weeks, with no renewal. If you have a monthly book club, this should give you enough time to check out the kit, distribute the books at your regular book club meeting, read the book, discuss it at your next month’s meeting, and return the kit to the library.

Each book is numbered; we suggest creating a sign-out list to keep track of which club member has each copy. The person who checks the Book Club in a Bag out from Samuels Library is responsible for returning the entire kit, and he or she will be charged for any missing or damaged pieces.

At your meeting, use the provided questions to start a conversation about this book. Good food helps too! (If you think you will need more questions or background information, try searching online or asking a librarian to help you find more.) At the end of the meeting, collect all 10 copies of the book and put them back in the tote bag. Make sure to return the entire kit to the library by the due date to avoid accruing late fees ($1.00 per day, $20.00 maximum).

We hope you and your book club enjoy discussing the books in these kits. We’re always trying to create new kits, so if your book club has multiple copies of another book you loved discussing, please consider donating them to the library.
